This year, my sister and I are taking the BIG SWIM—and if you know me, you may be surprised to hear that.

I was a competitive swimmer from the age of 9 through 21. In fact, chances are that if we've known each other for more than 20 years, we probably met on a pool deck somewhere. Swimming gave me so much more than a sport. It introduced me to lifelong friends who now live all across Canada and around the world.

And yet... despite all those years in the pool, I've always been scared of open water.

To make this challenge even more interesting, I haven't swum for exercise in over 15 years. So when my sister and I decided to register for the BIG SWIM, it felt a little bit WILD — and exactly like the kind of challenge worth taking on.

As CEO of Brigadoon Village, I have the privilege of leading an organization built on courage, resilience, connection, and trying things that may feel a little intimidating at first. Taking on this swim is my way of embracing those same values—stepping outside my comfort zone, proving that we can do hard things, and helping build awareness and support for the Village and the incredible community behind it.
