Caro's Big Swim - Please support Brigadoon Village - Giving extraordinary kids a chance to be ordinary.
Hi there. My name is Carolyn and on July 28th I am going to swim across the Northumberland Strait from New Brunswick to PEI!!! Why you ask, would a novice long distance swimmer want to swim from one province to another? Well…I am taking part in an amazing charity fundraising event called THE BIG SWIM 2024 in support of Brigadoon Village.
"Brigadoon Village is a non-profit pediatric medical camp facility on Aylesford Lake in the Annapolis Valley. Brigadoon delivers year-round camp programming to children, youth, and families living with health conditions or other life challenges in Atlantic Canada. Each camp offered at Brigadoon is designed so that children living with the same illness or life challenge attend a camp specifically tailored for those living with their needs. By providing this type of environment the kids who attend Brigadoon no longer feel different or alone because of their diagnosis. For many, they are meeting others who are just like them for the first time. The opportunity to share and bond with another child who shares the same life challenge is powerfully therapeutic."
Helping me with this adventure is my husband John. Every swimmer needs someone to kayak beside them for safety and support during the swim and he is taking on the challenge. This charity means a great deal to both of us. Two of our nieces were fortunate enough to go to Brigadoon as campers. Our fundraising goal is to raise money to send at least two more children to camp so they can have the chance to build friendships, have fun, go on adventures and everything else that camp offers.
As a novice swimmer taking on THE BIG SWIM, I am called a "Nemo". However, I see myself more as a "Dory" because I will JUST KEEP SWIMMING until I get to the other side.
Thank you for supporting in any way you can.
Carolyn
